You’re a Liar! (Card game)

Goals: Practise numbers and adding ‘s’ for plurals with a poker face. Similar to Doubt.

Preparation: A pack of playing cards for each group of up six

You’re a Liar

  •  Hand out the cards to all the players. The person who gets rid of all of their cards by putting them down in ascending order is the winner.
  •  The person with the 2 of hearts starts, and will put it face down in the centre of the circle. They say “one 2” or “two 2s” if they put down two cards. The next person must put down up to four 3s and so on. If they don’t have a 3 or they want to put down more cards than they actually have, they need to lie.
    * For example, when a player needs to put down a 3, they say “three 3s,” but actually put down a 4, 5 and a 7.
  •  However, if someone thinks the player is lying, they can say, “You’re a liar.” When this happens, the cards that were put down are turned over. If the player lied, they must take the whole pile. If they didn’t lie, the player who called “liar” must take the pile. Play resumes until a player has lost all of their cards.
  •  Count Jack, Queen and Kind as 11, 12, 13. Continue to loop around from 1 (ace) after 13.

Variations: If you have a few decks of alphabet cards, you can use them instead. Mix three or four sets of alphabet cards together and use them in ascending or descending order.
